Current BetterTouchTool Version: Download (and use on your own risk )
BetterTouchTool is based on portions of MultiClutch from William Henderson (http://wcrawford.org ) in the meantime most of this code has been rewritten or changed drastically, but without his work BTT would not exist at all. So thanks for your great work!

November 10th, 2009 at 7:05 pmHi,
I’m very interested in your BetterTouchTool, I’m currently using multiclutch with simbl to get it working with the rest of the 64 bits software and I also use the middleclick app from http://clement.beffa.org/labs/projects/middleclick/
now I just found out about this BetterTouchTool of yours which brings multiclutch and middleclick together, I think it is awesome.
But, there’s something I can’t get it to work, I use an older version of middleclick which do cmd+click globally, but I have no idea how to set cmd + click to BetterTouchTool.
Is there any method for me to asset this gesture with the 3 finger tap?

November 12th, 2009 at 2:25 amThere’s a bug with 0.306 when using expose all programs on a two finger Magic Mouse swipe.
For some reason the action pre-selects one of the windows (put a blue square around it). Pressing just the keyboard key does not pre-select a windows to un-expose back to.
This means that if you do the swipe back accident, and then re-swipe to undo the expose-all-windows, you can be brought to a random window. Just using the keyboard key to expose-all-programs would bring you back to the window you started with.
Not only that, but once the pre-selection has happened, sometimes you cannot pick one of the program windows without shaking the mouse on-and-off of that preview. This happened mainly with firefox for me, not sure if that’s important.

November 12th, 2009 at 4:03 amHey, Just a comment
I have noticed that if I don’t use my computer for a while, then BetterTouchTool stops working – no gestures would work. But, if I close it and then open it again, it would work perfectly.
Is it happening just for me, or for others as well? -

November 18th, 2009 at 5:14 pmCan you make the Magic Mouse behave as if it’s actually a MacBook Pro trackpad? Specifically, can you permit a two-finger tap be seen as a control-click? How about a single tap as a normal click? How about a single drag as a cursor movement and a two-finger drag as a scroll? (Basically making the MM think it’s a real MacBook Pro trackpad.) eMail me if you decide to try this and I’ll be glad to beta for you.
Also: If you -can- do this, contact Wacom because their Bamboo Touch could use similar functionality; they blame Apple for not releasing “the API for the Apple Gestures”.

November 18th, 2009 at 8:04 pmTrying to run the latest version (and the last version) on my Snow Leopard Intel MacBook Pro w Multitouch trackpad and magic mouse.
The app won’t run. Double click has no effect.
The first time it was double clicked I got the OSX warning “This app was downloaded…” etc.
But nothing other than that. No presence in dock or system tray. -
11. Brian Says:
November 19th, 2009 at 3:19 amI downloaded the app to test the middle click function on my macbook pro before going out to buy the magic mouse. In doing so, I am having trouble with the middle click function working correctly in Google SketchUp (and similar apps). If you aren’t familiar with the application, the middle click function is normally used to orbit (and with shift, to pan) around the model. When I set up the middle click function, the orbit command responds ever so briefly and doesn’t last. Is there a way to set up the middle click where you can keep the ‘button’ depressed while swiping around on the trackpad to orbit?
Thanks

November 24th, 2009 at 1:19 pmHi, I download BetterTouchTool, unzip and copy the app into application folder, then I open the application but it apparently not running and not work (dindn’t show in menu bar nor in force quit appliction list) however if I try to move it into the trash appear that isn’t possible because it is in use, so I opened the Terminal and write the command: ps aux | grep BetterTouchTool
I found the application active and finally I kill it.
when I restarted BetterTouchTool I had the same problems every time (I tried more 10 times)
why it didn’t work? -

November 24th, 2009 at 8:04 pmThis is an excellent application that unlocks the true potential of Apple’s multitouch trackpads and mice. However, I am facing a very unique issue.
The three finger tap works sporadically as compared to the 4 finger tap which works as intended.
What could be causing this?

19. Barry Says:
November 25th, 2009 at 4:47 pmAlmost perfect. Here’s my wish list:
Make the Magic Mouse perform -exactly- like an Alu MacBook Pro trackpad. Rotate the mouse 90 degrees (so it’s horizontal) and let me velcro it to the table. I want to use it as a clone of the MacBook Pro’s trackpad (with all tapping, two-finger scrolling, swiping, etc.). Then the Magic Mouse becomes the one item Apple should sell (but will not): a wireless trackpad.
Oh yeah, one final wish: Is there a way to set the velocity (or pressure) of the tap to avoid accidental taps?
I still love what you’ve done already. Please keep up the good work. Can I make a donation?

21. Barry Says:
November 25th, 2009 at 4:56 pmAs long as you’ve added “disable one-finger scrolling”, how about adding an option for “one finger mouse movement” (so dragging a finger over the mouse moves the cursor on the screen without axtually having to physically move the mouse)?
Add’l wish: Add “Absolute Mode” so moving the finger to the upper left corner of the mouse surface moves the cursor to the upper left corner of the screen, etc.

I want to send massive kudos to the developer of this app. You have singlehandedly made the Magic Mouse an amazing device. The way Apple ships it with limited and non user-programmable multifunction gestures is ridiculous.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!! I’m loving this Magic Mouse so much now as a result that I’ve put away my Logitech MX Revolution.

December 1st, 2009 at 6:56 pmThis is a great piece of work… makes the Magic Mouse really magic. I have gotten all the things I’ve tried to work brilliantly except the pinch zoom. I’ve tried it in Safari and Photoshop and in both cases, zooming one way will sometimes bring up Help and sometimes other odd behavior, zooming the other way does nothing. I’ve tried reconfiguring it a few times to no avail. Is there a trick to this I’m missing? I have an early 2008 MacBook Pro with multi-touch, but newer aluminum one.

Try setting the shortcuts your computer uses for zooming by doubleclicking the shortcut field.I must be missing something… I am in the Gestures preferences tab where I can use the plus sign to add Gesture and Key command. I add “zoom in (magic)” and under Key Command it says to “doubleclick to set shortcut, or select action”. I can select action from the list fine, but I don’t get the “doubleclick”. So I went into my Keyboard shortcuts and turned on the Universal Access “Zoom in” and “Zoom out”. I tested that Shift-Command-= will do a zoom in from the keyboard. I then added the zoom in gesture and typed that key sequence in to BTT. The pinch still doesn’t work. I’m wondering if I’m not pinching correctly on the mouse or something.

@Mike
you are trying to get it work on the magic mouse, right? Have you tried playing with the zooming options?I just looked at that, but I don’t see how it would have anything to do with this. The zoom options seem to let you change the way the mouse pointer moves when the screen is zoomed in… not anything with pinching.
One thing I noticed is that I do have MouseZoom installed. That is a small program that speeds up the mouse movement to make it tolerable with the Magic Mouse. I have a 30″ display in the Magic Mouse was unusable without MouseZoom (for me). I wonder if that is created a conflict or something?

51. Nathan Bowers Says:
December 3rd, 2009 at 8:16 pmLove this utility, makes MagicMouse usable by adding middle click.
I’m confused about whether “zoom in/out” means the old school CTRL+scroll zoom or the pinch multitouch gesture for zooming into a photo.
I have a late 2006 MBP, which isn’t a multitouch pad. Is BTT supposed to enable the multitouch pinch?
Thanks for a great util, please set up a donate button.

52. Nathan Bowers Says:
December 3rd, 2009 at 8:21 pmMagic Mouse often “jiggles” the scroll position accidentally. Feels like scrolling is too sensitive since almost the whole mouse is touch sensitive.
I wonder if there’s a setting to only scroll if the finger swipe is initiated from the top center of the mouse. Or maybe only let it scroll if the touch is harder than a certain pressure.

December 4th, 2009 at 9:27 amhi,
thanks for bettertoutch tool. i have a question and maybe you have solution;-)
in some apps the touch of the new magic mouse is unusable (example indesign, final cut) so i need a solution so that deactivate the touchtpad on the mouse in this app or (what is far better) to enable the touch stuff only after a special key on the keyboard…Do you know something?
Thanks
-
54. Gavin Says:
December 4th, 2009 at 5:02 pmhey,
Regarding Mark Bischoff’s question, you can set different touch gestures for different programs by clicking the plus over at the far left sidebar. You can predefine gestures for Final Cut and Indesign so what your mouse does for an action in each application is different. Hope it helps.
Also, in response to the Alpha version…
I find a glitch where I set the action for the Magic Mouse, and it shows up in my created gesture’s list, but it doesn’t not show the actual gesture.
Hopefully you know what I mean and you can fix it up.Cheers,
Gavin -

I’m looking forward to what cool features comes with the next updates
For example: How about disabling/adjusting mouse acceleration curve? (A simple slider would do)
As you might know, many people (including me) think that OS X’s acceleration behavior feels weird and overdone. A working fix for the Magic Mouse would be simply the greatest

December 12th, 2009 at 6:11 pmFollowup from no. 42
Struggled to figure out how to do a zoom in (Command+) since I couldn’t get the shortcut to show up anything other than Command+shift+=. Then sat and thought about it for a while… shift+= is + and, unsurprisingly, it’s working.
It appears that “Pinch in” is really “Pinch out” since my gestures are:
Pinch in: Command+Shift+=
Pinch out: Command+-These mirror what works on the trackpad, with one difference in that the gesture needs to be used from top-to-bottom of the mouse whereas on the trackpad you can go left-right pinch. Now just need figure out a sensible rotate
Thanks for the suggestion.
