- this version brings not many new things, I cleaned up my code so I can work faster now
- I rewrote bigger parts of my algorithms, especially for three finger tapping. So please report bugs with those.
- Some more advanced preferences
//edit: 0.341 Application Switcher can now be selected in action dropdown. This is very experimental.
//edit 0.342 fixes a little bug in Application Switcher
//edit 0.343 fixes bug with 3 finger swipes on magic mouse
//edit 0.344 little fix for single finger taps
//edit 0.345 fixes bug with 3 finger taps
Download and try at your own risk. Please report bugs as usual. Use 0.339 if you want something more tested, it seems to work pretty good.
I experimented a little bit with a zooming gesture but came to the conclusion that this doesn’t work very well with the magic mouse…

Regarding the Zoom functions, I recommend trying a one finger tap right and with left finger swipe up and down. Not sure if you can implement this, but would give it a try.
Another idea: is it possible to use a gesture for closing a window?
Thank you so much for your great work!
November 20th, 2009 at 1:35 pm
@taume, yes I may try this. Problem is the scrolling which occurs when doing so. I can stop it from scrolling but this is not perfect especially if momentum is activated.
Using a gesture for closing windows is easy, just set CMD + W as shortcut. (works with most windows)

Good Morning. I’m really excited with four finger tap!! I don’t know if you remember my comments, but I’ve started posting at this blog 3 days ago.
Before using your software, I’ve used multicluth with SIMBL for snow leopard + middleclick.
I’ve searched the web for months looking for a 4 finger tap on my macbook pro and didn’t find anything! That was frustrating.
Since 3 days, I’ve started wishing that 4 finger tap, and you’ve done what I’ve asked for. You are more than a developer, you’re human, you are the man!
I don’t have words to thank you for your work. Instead of that, I’m here to tell you that you can count on me if I can do something for you. You’ve got my e-mail.
Anyone in your condition would start taking our money away, because macbook multitouch is a joke without Better Touch Tool.
——————————————————————————————–
I have a doubt: I want to set 4 finger swipe right for CMD+TAB (because i’ve disabled it on apple pref. pane to use 4 fingers swipe left to another shortcut). But when I press CMD+TAB in BTT, the APP Switcher come in first instance, and I can’t set it as a shortcut.
Anyone have an idea on that?
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH AGAIN, please, count with me if you need.

I love how much you enhance my magic mouse! I personnaly would like to have a pince-to-zoom feature, but I know how much it could be complicated since the other moves already take a lot of place.
November 20th, 2009 at 2:15 pm
I’m here again, but now I will comment as a Physical Therapist:
Raising your index finger and keep it going in the trackpad all the way down to close/raise a window, change or close a tab, as for other repetitive efforts that we’ve been doing a thousand times daily, could lead to long term muscle-skeletal complications. These complications may include pain at your hand, wrist, elbow, shoulder and even your neck.
I don’t have a scientific work in hand to illustrate that now, but I have my extensively clinical practice, plus anatomical and bio-mechanical knowledge to give a strong argument on that.
Nowadays I can use my macbook to work longer in a more productive, easy and cool way, with considerable less discomfort than previously from using this APP.
This app is strongly recommended for everyone with a macbook + multitouch trackpad.
“GOOD FOR YOUR PRODUCTIVITY, GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH.”
I’m Really sorry for “non-Mac” users.
Thank you very much.
(Again, sorry about my English writing / I’m Brazilian).

@Rafa
I have uploaded 0.341 which brings an experimental option to show the application switcher
Thanks for all the nice comments
November 20th, 2009 at 2:41 pm
thank you Andreas, you are the best
November 20th, 2009 at 2:50 pm
I would really like to replace the 1 Finger scrolling with a 2 Finger scrolling, like it is on the touchpad.
I have a constant issue that I zoom or scroll (depending what app is in front) when moving or touching the mouse, so a 2 finger scrolling would be very very nice.
Can this be done?
November 20th, 2009 at 2:53 pm
Hello,
You are welcome! In these days, most people only criticize or give their opinion on things that are not good. It’s very easy to point a finger at someone, tell that their work is a mess, and don’t do anything to make our world better.
I consider the importance of giving the credits to people who make good things, who care about others opinion: you deserve it. You don’t need to thank me for my comments. Your work almost done it for you!
————————-
“App switcher” working like I’ve dreamed of! 4 fingers swipe right (when it was right and left by apple’s default, that was a waste for multitouch potential).
Thank you very much. I sincerely wish you a really nice time since now and on.
November 20th, 2009 at 2:54 pm
Thanks for trying to work on the App Switcher. That was one I was asking for. I set it up for the three finger swipe left or right. When I swipe to the right it comes up and the little square that surrounds each app races across the screen never stopping. It’s moving from left to right. When I swipe three-finger left the App Switcher appears the square goes a few to the left then perpetually goes to the right never stopping.
November 20th, 2009 at 3:01 pm
I love the app but I think the menu bar icon could be improved — I designed a new one, which can be seen here:
http://www.bureauofcommunication.com/files/menubar.jpg
And the png file can be found here:
http://www.bureauofcommunication.com/files/BTT-icon6.png
I’d be curious to hear what you all think of it!
November 20th, 2009 at 3:05 pm
Hello,
(i’m a french student, so i apologize for my bad english…)
I love your application… in fact, i bought the magic mouse because of BetterTouch !
So, thanks a lot for this, this is a wonderfull work. Congrats!
This application is awesome, but, is it possible to configure the gesture for one application ?
Like a swip to left/right for previous/next page in Firefox ? Or a gesture for refreshing the page ?
Thanks !
Kei.
November 20th, 2009 at 3:07 pm
@Keichi
sure just press the little plus on the left side, add the application you want the shortcut be assigned to and then set the shortcuts for it.
November 20th, 2009 at 3:07 pm
I have app switcher as a global shortcut for two finger right swipe.The square that surrounds the app behaves correctly when rthe switcher first comes up (it’s on the app you were using before) but when you swipe one finger on the mouse and release, the box moves with momentum. This is strange and not very useful.
I’m glad to be able to select an app in the switcher with a one finger swipe, BTW.
November 20th, 2009 at 3:09 pm
same for me…
November 20th, 2009 at 3:10 pm
@Andreas: Yes.. i just see it.
Sorry, i must double check before posting !
But, how to add he optin/shift/… button in the command list ?
Juste c/c the “image” ?
Thanks.
November 20th, 2009 at 3:16 pm
I prefer the one we have now. just my opinion.
November 20th, 2009 at 3:17 pm
Great work on this new version. Two finger click works for me now, and the application switch feature is very nice.
November 20th, 2009 at 3:18 pm
3 finger tap on touchpad doesn’t work for me with 0.34*, while 0.339 works.
November 20th, 2009 at 3:23 pm
@anonymous
you may try to play a bit with the pressure and time settings in the Prefs (Advanced => Touchpad)
November 20th, 2009 at 3:26 pm
Hi Andreas,
There is a little issue with the “normal” right click with the magic mouse. When you define two finger click in order to make any command (middle click in my case), you have to lift your left finger if you want to “normal” right click (for contextual menu for example); left click works properly instead (without lifting right finger).
When two finger click is not activated right click works even if you have both finger (L&R) on the mouse.
In the same way when “2finger down-up swipe” is activated you have to lift one finger for normal scrolling, and it doesn’t feel very comfortable for me (it’s solved when no option for “2 finger swipe up or down” is activated).
Thanks, you are making a great job with this app!!
November 20th, 2009 at 3:29 pm
@h0r
thats true, will fix this in the evening.
November 20th, 2009 at 4:02 pm
4 finger tap and application switcher working fantastic for touchpad! thank you so much
November 20th, 2009 at 4:35 pm
@h0r
isn’t it normal? I have this since I bought my mouse. I always had to lift my left finger to do right click. wtf?
and Andreas, thanks for all the good work!
November 20th, 2009 at 4:46 pm
BetterTouchTool is AMAZING. Keep up the good work, it’s very welcome. I didn’t consider the Magic Mouse a good buy, but YOUR tool made it something else. (Even the trackpad became even more useful).
Very cool….thanks for the good work.
(I’ve been having some issues with 4 finger tap, it’s called when I do four finger swipes, etc. But it’s not that big of a deal, really)
November 20th, 2009 at 4:53 pm
The Gestures list is becoming very long. Perhaps it is time to seperate this in the UI? Magic Mouse gestures and Trackpad gestures…
November 20th, 2009 at 4:56 pm
Very Good Job! And thank YOU! Now we need just the 4 finger clik and tap on the magic for the dashboard than we can put in the garbage our keyboard! Amazing work! Thanks again!!
November 20th, 2009 at 5:06 pm
Thanks for app switcher…
BBT is now a must have for any magic mouse owner!
Cheers!
November 20th, 2009 at 7:19 pm
@Andreas Hegenberg
Am I missing something?
I’ve been using it for that using two-finger tap since 333?
Scott
November 20th, 2009 at 7:21 pm
@scottb
hehe how did you do? just sending cmd+tab does not work because cmd needs to be kept down.
November 20th, 2009 at 7:35 pm
@Andreas Hegenberg
Easy. using another Mighty Mouse, I set the center scroll button to be the app switcher.
Now, turn on the Magic Mouse and use Two-finger tap and MiddleClick
Beautiful!
November 20th, 2009 at 7:38 pm
@scottb
but not everyone owns a mighty mouse, still cool idea!
hehe okay
November 20th, 2009 at 7:40 pm
True. Many had either a BT MM or a wired MM though.
I guess that most were upgrades?
November 20th, 2009 at 7:41 pm
@scottb
I’m pretty new to this whole apple stuff
maybe
November 20th, 2009 at 7:48 pm
Well, if that’s true, you’re a pretty sharp guy!
November 20th, 2009 at 7:52 pm
@Joshua
This icon look much better than the one currently used (although I’d rather see BTT turned into a prefpane.)
November 20th, 2009 at 7:58 pm
wow!!!
Thank you for AppSwitcher!
Entire thing works better, great job!
November 20th, 2009 at 8:00 pm
I don’t like the proposed icon
looks like the first one I had in the first version of BTT. If you don’t want the icon in the menubar you can hide it in the prefs.
November 20th, 2009 at 8:02 pm
I is tossible to make the same two finger desture on magic mose to zoom in and zoom out as it is originally on touchpad?
November 20th, 2009 at 8:03 pm
And also to rotate images? – it would be really usefull for images.
November 20th, 2009 at 8:21 pm
As a follow up on my last comment about BTT not working, I do not see an icon in my dock or any other indication that the program is running except in Activity Manager. Activity Manager is the only way I can get the program to quit. Each time I load the app, I delete the preference first. The app opens, I get the question about which kind of computer/Trackpad I have, I choose one of the three responses (3rd response is “Quit”) and then nothing.
I would really like to get this to work.
November 20th, 2009 at 8:23 pm
don’t look in the dock, look in the menubar! (or hit ctrl+alt+cmd+o)
November 20th, 2009 at 8:38 pm
Just amazing!
But one little drawback, though… Since about .27 I think, I have a problem with two finger swipe left; I have assigned it to close a window – wich it does quite well most of the time. But when in Safari, it tends to trigger the default “history back”. When I disable the default one, no actions are taken at all…
Maybe something you could look into?
Thank you for your great work!
November 20th, 2009 at 8:41 pm
@Jack
mhh could you send me your com.hegenberg.bettertouchtool.plist to bettertouchtool [ at] boastr.net ? (its in /Library/Preferences/)
November 20th, 2009 at 8:42 pm
I just updated to v0.345 and this tool is getting better and better. Apple released an excellent mouse for the first time, but the ‘driver’ is absolute crap. BetterTouchTool is what everyone should install to get the maximum out of this great looking mouse.
November 20th, 2009 at 9:06 pm
@Ivan
This is exactly what I’m thinking! Is it possible?
November 20th, 2009 at 9:19 pm
You could always give users a choice which icon they want to use. I’ve seen this in some other menu item apps.
November 20th, 2009 at 9:46 pm
Hi.
Thank you for this wonderful app.
A question: is it possible to apply your “ignore part of the mouse” option to the apple’s original gestures ? (the only gestures that don’t work well are those from Apple…
)
An idea of gesture for magic mouse: one finger scroll up (or down) while another finger is touching the mouse.
November 20th, 2009 at 10:36 pm
A bug report — at some point in the past three versions I’ve lost the systems default “Swipe to navigate” functionality from my Magic Mouse, even though it’s still turned on in System Preferences. Any ideas?
November 20th, 2009 at 10:39 pm
If you’re interested me making an upgraded icon, let me know and I can work with you on it. The current one you’ve got has problems with the anti-aliasing and the line weights don’t really match up with the supplied system icons. You’ve made a great app, though I think you could make it even better — contact me at Joshua Ezra at g mail .
@Andreas Hegenberg
November 20th, 2009 at 10:42 pm
@Joshua
do you have set custom swipe left / swipe right gestures set?
@lyonnel
will be possible “soon”
November 20th, 2009 at 10:56 pm
@Andreas Hegenberg…. is this a German Name?? You are from Germany?? Can you make this Tool in german Language?
November 20th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
@Schimy
aber meinst du wirklich ne deutsche version würde sich lohnen? Soo viel englisch ist das ja nicht in dem programm
ja bin deutscher
November 20th, 2009 at 11:00 pm
Is it possible to implement a border limit for three finger clik, to avoid accidently tree finger clicking (it’s affected to expose desktop for me)
thank’s a lot
Good work
November 20th, 2009 at 11:02 pm
Doch, ich denke da wäre einige sehr froh darüber… das Tool ist sehr beliebt bei http://www.apfeltalk.de und leider können nicht alle perfekt English…
November 20th, 2009 at 11:05 pm
November 21st, 2009 at 4:59 am
I assigned three finger click (OS 10.6.2 and Magic Mouse) to Application Switcher, but, it seems, that the Switcher only remains on screen if the click is held. Normal/ better? behaviour is that the Switcher will remain on screen until an application is selected (ie. without the need to hold the click).
November 21st, 2009 at 12:00 pm
I definitely would use the zoom functionality (à la Mouse Wizard) as I do use my Mac Pro as a media center at times. The Mouse Wizard execution is a little awkward but still better than nothing. It would be interesting to see if you could do it with one finger being stationary – much easier to actually execute on a mouse and MUCH more elegant. I might even use it in Photoshop et al if it worked well.
Your remote function is interesting and I will try that out. Keep in mind that anyone using that function would probably appreciate some kind of zoom in case they decide to view a website on the fly (say Netflix) and would like to be able to read it! I’m not saying it would replace my iPhone with Air Mouse (the keyboard function on there is just too handy) but it’s a cool idea for sure.
You’ve got a great app here. I’m impressed to see the breadth of options and you are definitely filling the gap left by the standard software. It’s like having a MackBook Pro trackpad for my Mac Pro!
