Here an experimental version with tap2click (you have to add single tap as gesture and then set Leftclick as action.

Important Note:
There seem to be some programs that are not compatible with BTT and may make your system freeze (in combination with BTT). I’ll add a list of those to the documentation soon. These programs have in common that they need the Accessibility API (access for assistive devices) enabled (but not all programs that need this API can cause crashes).
One program I know about yet is TypeIt4Me

I’ll try to find a solution to this asap.

To clear things up: Macbooks without mutitouch touchpads are not supported. Still, if you connect a magic mouse to your “old” macbook you can configure the mouse with BTT (therefore the selection of your mactype)

    i love it :)
    great work!!
    danke!!

    tap2click as in you don’t have to actually click on the magic mouse instead you just tap on the mouse?

  4. 4. admin Says:

    @jpma exactly (maybe useful if you use the mouse somewhere like in a library where everyone is silent and the clicking noise disturbes

    The cool thing about this software that you are developing is that it is making the magic mouse more and more like a mobile trackpad. Haven’t had a chance to test any of today’s versions as I am trapped at work in a Vista/XP environment, but as soon as I get home…..

    thanks

    Tom

    First of all, thank you very much for this app. I’ve used multiclutch and realize that I can’t live without it. Now I know that I can – but can’t live without better touch tool, which of course, is really better like the name says. Multicluth became an issue to me because I had to install simbl (which I dislike) and make a maneuver to make it work with snow leopard. Now I don’t need anything than a small App. What I want to know is – Where’s the four finger tap or click for macbook pro? I really miss that, and I would like to set SPACES as four finger tap or click, or COMMAND+Q for example… Is that possible? Another suggestion is to people post their shortcuts so we can have some ideas of using this “extremely useful awesome outstanding incredible amazing REALLY easy (yes, it’s that easy), costless software”. That’s what apple should give to us by default when they told us about multi-touch. .

    Hi,

    I wonder if it is possible to add two finger click like three finger click instead of two finger tap for we can’t go previous/forward anymore, when we touch two finger on Magic Mouse, it go to next tab (my configuration).

    But thank you for BetterTouchTool!

    Well done. :)

  8. 8. Ian Says:

    I would like a two finger click too.. Since I use middle click every seconds.. the three finger thing is too uncomfortable

  9. 9. Rafa Says:

    As my suggestion above, I’ll start telling you some of my shortcuts that makes my computing experience more enjoyable.

    FINDER:
    three finger swipe up – CMD+N (new finder window)
    three finger swipe down – CMD+W (closes current finder windows)
    rotate left – space (to preview without killing my spacebar button)

    FIREFOX:
    three finger swipe up – CMD+T (opens a new tab)
    three finger swipe down – CMD+W (closes active tab)
    rotate left – Control+FN+UP (go to previous tab)
    rotate right – Control+FN+DOWN (go to next tab)
    three finger tap – Middleclick (open link in new tab)

    MAIL:
    three finger swipe up – CMD+SHIFT+N (check for new mail)
    three finger swipe down – CMD+Q (Quit Mail)

    KEYNOTE:
    three finger swipe up – CMD+X (Cut image or text)
    three finger swipe down CMD+V (paste clipboard as many times as you swipe 3 fingers down)
    - this last one is extremely useful if you duplicate or triplicate (quad, etc…) images or slides to make awesome animations with keynote.

    Please, note that my shortcuts don’t interfere with apple’s default multi-touch action, because in this Apps, swipe it up or left, down or right do the same thing. In finder, rotate left or right don’t do anything.

    Please (again), let me know if I’m wrong (I’m here to learn).

    Thank you very much.

    Hi, I’m back again (uninstalled all multiclutch, simbl stuff and middleclick yesterday), and installed this wonderful tool today.

    I’m Sorry about so many posts, but I’m doing an intensively testing routine with this software this afternoon (called my boss and told him I’m ill, lololol).

    I can’t configure four finger swipe right or left (don’t matter what I do, everytime the CMD+TAB comes in place). Any comments on that?

    Sorry about my english – I’m Brazilian. Thanks again.

  11. 11. admin Says:

    @Rafa
    in order to use the 4 finger gestures you have to disable the original apple gestures in your system preferences!

  12. 12. jCalcara Says:

    Freezes my computer, even new shortcut does not quit program! Eventually it unfreezes for a few seconds, then I can quit….

  13. 13. Andre Says:

    Is it possible to desensitize the left and right edges of the top surface? That is, where I’m holding the mouse. The touches there seem to interfere with my intentional touches. For me to use the tap to click, I must remove my hand from the mouse completely.
    This is also a problem with the stock Apple behavior for two-finger swiping. Maybe my fingers are just too fat.

    Thanks

  14. 14. admin Says:

    @Andre
    Yes I’ll make an option for this.

  15. 15. aresinferno Says:

    It needs some kind of default application list so you don’t have to go browsing the app folder for apps such as the finder and then realising it’s actually somewhere else and having to google it to find out it is in a completely different location.

    Also, the magic mouse and trackpad options need to be in seperate tabs and not just seperated in the same list.

  16. 16. Marc Says:

    Is it possible to add a Gesture-Button-combination like Pressing cmd and make a Three-Finger-swipe will do something Else than a normal Three Finger swipe?

  17. 17. aresinferno Says:

    @aresinferno
    Also as soon as you let the magic mouse act as a trackpad (and somehow turn off / ignore the laser tracking) then I’m getting one :D

    Awesome work.

  18. 18. Rafa Says:

    Man (admin) – You’ve become the god of multi-touch ! You are the guy who can manipulate the touch settings, and that’s a nice, powerful gift. People will buy more magic mouses all over the world, and you’ll became Steve’s successor. LOL, but there’s a lot of true back there.

    Congratulations.

    - “But people, calm down!” – If one keeps answering every journey about multi-touch possibilities, he don’t get time to work at the essentials. That means, step by step.

    I’ve started a request about “Four finger Click”: that a reality, as is the addition of a combination like CMD+three finger swipe. This will multiply the choices.

    This App is too much for freeware, and must be upgraded to Donationware. It deserves it.

  19. 19. alberto Says:

    By the way Mr Admin; the ‘set mouse speed’ gets reset every time you re-start (all other settings remain OK).
    I’m seriously starting to feel for you, with all of us asking and indicating issues… Maybe if I (we) could buy you a drink?
    Also I’m using TextExpander and Quickeys, so maybe my freeze issues are related to that stuff (for your list).

  20. 20. Rafa Says:

    Excuse me my friend, but this I may answer to you.

    .Sir, please open Spotlight (CMD+Spacebar) and type Activity Monitor / Press Enter;

    .sort your processes by CPU and then by Memory Usage. If you’re having trouble with some App, try to first “Inspect” it, and then Quit a process if needed;

    . You may try to reconnect your mouse for diagnostic issues;

    . Also type “Accounts” in Spotlight, and look for login items. Go there, and disable all items that may cause (or are causing) you some trouble right from the beginning.

    Ok, this is a Mac, but this time I’ll tell you to restart the system (after concluding the procedure above).

    This multi-touch program works flawless to me. And I feel safe about testing it, because I have the “Eject Button” – ctrl+alt+cmd+Q. Really great!

  21. 21. admin Says:

    @rafa still be careful if you use programs that need you to activate the accessibility api (access for assistive devices, you’d know if you have such a program running) because they could block the “Eject Button”

  22. 22. AltieroSpinelli Says:

    grazie dall’Italia intera.

  23. 23. Rafa Says:

    Thanks for the advice – I had the access for assistive devices on (I can’t remember what I have that uses that), but now I’ve disabled it, until some App claim for it.

    As I said, Your software is very stable on my environment.

    Not sure if this is real or not but I seem to keep getting random triple-clicks from the MacBook Air using Firefox 3.6b: no idea what the feature is called but it shows as a circle with up and down arrows and if you move cursor above or below that circle, it scrolls in that direction. Anyone else seeing this? Am using this version (328) and have just rebooted.
