Hi,

I had to drop support for 32Bit Macs with the latest BetterTouchTool update (because Apple seems to have decided that it’s time to move on, and many of those cool new & shiny features are only available on 64bit). As far as I know the last Macs without 64bit support where sold until 2006 or 2007. Everything  that has a Core 2 Duo or newer does support 64bit.

Unfortunately the autoupdater I’m using doesn’t seem to be able to block 64bit updates on 32bit systems. So if you updated and now get an error when launching BTT,  you’ll have to download an older version of BTT.

The last version that supports 32Bit can be downloaded here

    Andreas,

    Thanks for all the updates!

Just a point of clarification. Some Macbooks are forced to still run a 32-bit core (due to Apple not writing new graphics drivers for the X3100 graphics card), but can run 64 bit applications. I’m assuming that your drop in 32 bit support is not affecting such machines?

I’m assuming not because I’m on such a Macbook (4,1, early 2008 Core 2 Duo, SL). I can’t run OSX full 64 bit (still have to keep that 32 bit core), but I appear to be running BTT 0.82 just fine.

    Hi Andreas -

Thanks for all your work on this!

Not sure if you saw my note from before, I’m still having trouble using this latest version of BTT with TotalFinder.

If you single-click or tap on a TotalFinder tab, and then do a three-finger drag anywhere else in the window, the tab will be pulled out to a new window, as though you had dragged on the tab.

It happens when you have any of these gestures enabled:
    - two finger tip-tap
    - three finger click
    - three finger clickswipe
    - three finger tip-tap

It would be great if you could look into it! Might mean getting in touch with the TotalFinder developer I suppose. I’m stuck on version 1.3.11 of TotalFinder, which is the last version that doesn’t have the problem. The release notes for the next version 1.3.12 say “I have optimized tab rendering, dragging and window layouting. Also some old windowing problems should be history.” – that version, and all versions after it, have the problem. Thanks…

Hi Andreas, thanks for building a really useful tool, been essential in my work, thanks! However I’d also like to point out a couple of things in the few versions I’ve used, most of them without problems.

In V0.781 (or whichever was the official version before 0.785), the application very consistently crashed upon wake from sleep. I’d have to restart the application manually from Finder and things would be fine again. This was an annoyance, and I’ve submitted a few fault reports from the in-application dialog but most of the time I restarted the app and moved on. Fortunately, with 0.785, this issue was completely fixed.

However, with V0.8, a new problem came up. This has happened twice now since the update. At random intervals, the entire system lags up; as what I always do, the first thing I open is activity monitor; upon launching, I notice that BTT is taking up 1.5gb of memory and 52% of the CPU for no reason whatsoever; and naturally none of my gestures work, and every other action for everything else on the mac is lagging and choppy. Quitting the application in activity monitor fixes everything. Then, I relaunch, and BTT is back to normal. This morning this happened again, with a whopping 78% CPU and 1.7gb of memory. It doesn’t exactly make sense, but I hope you can fix it for a future version – meanwhile I might just stick to the previous version.

Nevertheless, thanks for your work on this great tool! =)

Since upgrading from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion, BTT right click has become inconsistent. Sometimes it works… sometimes not. I know Apple provides a right click function, but Apple’s right click area is about 45% of the right side of Magic Mouse. Since Magic Mouse is in no way ergonomic, quite frequently the mouse gets sideways (that is to say, in normal usage for right handed users, the mouse tends to skew about 45° to the left) making left clicks sometimes right clicks. Very frustrating! I began using BTT early-on because of this and set the right click area to 25% of the right side…which solved the problem. Now with Mountain Lion, BTT’s right click has become inconsistent, which is nearly as frustrating. And yes, Apple’s right click function is switched off. Any suggestions?
Also, I miss the BTT prefpane earlier versions had!

Hey andreas thanks for your really useful tool, one thing that could really benefit me (and probably many others) would be not just the ability to define actions such a clicking or key combinations, but also to input keyboard strokes. For example I am a designer and use AutoCAD a lot! having a gesture which could do the key sequence “L” followed by “ENTER” would be useful for lines etc. just a suggestion :) keep up the good work.

Hi Andreas, thank you for building such a tool.
I have two ideas and don’t know if it is possible.

    1. I easily get tired when I use two finger swipe to scroll the homepage.
So can we use two finger tip(left hand) and one finger scroll(right hand) to scroll the homepage?
(This function is similar to IBM thinkpad notebooks, middle click function)

    2. Can we set an gesture as “two finger tip” “three finger tip” to simulate the action of “longclick” of mouse left button.
Longclick of mouse left button is absent in current settings(because I don’t want to longclick the touchpad).
So can you add this function?
If we can simulate longclick function, we can also multi-select items and drag them(similar to three finger drag in mac os Lion).

Not a bug, but I just wanted to tell you how sincerely I love you for developing BTT. I’ve been a user for years and it is now indespensible to me.

I tell every single other Mac user that I meet about BTT and show them how it works for me better than any other utility I have ever used in the 20 years I’ve used a computer.

Really, thank you, and keep up the great work. It is products like BTT that inspired me to share freely the things that I make.

    Hi Andreas

I understand that previously if we have the three finger dragging activated in system preferences we won’t be able to use the three finger tap. With the release of BTT 0.78 you mention “bugfixes” so I assume that I will be able to use three finger dragging and three finger tap again. However my three finger tap still trigger single finger tap if I have my three finger dragging activated. I’m currently on BTT 0.8. Is the bug still there? if yes, will it fix soon because i really miss the three finger dragging.

Noticed something interesting (and not the first time, now that I think of it) – was running 0.82 at the time, but it’s been a long-time issue, I think.

Needed to replace my Magic Trackpad batteries; afterward, responsiveness was very poor until I restarted BTT, at which point it was fine again. Almost as if BTT had ahold of something that was no longer right when the trackpad disconnected and reconnected.

The most important way Obama has minimized casualties, Bill, has been his redefinition of our efforts from a “War on Terror,” shrinking it down to a war against al Qaeda.

Kudos on this app, Andreas! I have been using it for two days and love it! I am in the process of switching to the Mac environment and BTT is making the transition much easier.

    Hi!

Is there a way to make the click zones a bit larger? I have settings for top-click, but I constantly miss the too-narrow top-click strip. It would be great if we could adjust its size.

  14. 14. Chris Says:

Wow I guess my computer really is old after all. Time to upgrade soon. This is a really great tool.

  15. 15. Tewan Says:

Any way to decrease the delay for the experimental double tapping? For example, if I tap to open a menu then put my finger back on the pad to go down to an option it’ll close the menu and register it as a drag.

  16. 16. smoke.tetsu Says:

Would it be possible to have bettertouch tool support holding down say… the right click and tapping the left or defined middle click or vice versa?
