Hello,
I love Better Touch Tool, it’s great software. What I’m missing from there is only one thing – to be able to set shortcut to move window to next(previous) space and at same time switch to that space. Do you think that it would be possible?

Hi,
Thanks for this amazing software. I have one small request though. Can you add an optional feature to disable BTT gestures when typing? I have actually set up corner taps for close (cmd W) and quit (cmd Q) operations, and while typing I accidentally end up closing or quitting apps!
Thanks

Hi Andreas, I have a little feature request.
Is it possible to add a Trackpad “three fingers touch” funciton that could allow moving windows ?
-The ideas would be the same as “1 finger touch top” for the magic mouse
-It could be far better than the Apple implementation of the function, if we could move the window from anywhere and not only from the title bar.
Thanks again for the work so far !

Aaaah, sorry I just realized it already exists !
November 30th, 2011 at 1:47 pm
BTT still does not sort the items in the context menu when multiple functions are assigned to the same ‘gesture’.
I suppose you meant you sorted them in the preferences interface where you choose the gesture..

Hello Andreas and thank you for a fantastic piece of software.
I’ll be donating a little something very soon as, for me, you’ve replaced the functionality of 2 bits of commercial software with your freeware.
There’s one last feature I need which will replace the need for another piece – which is to be able to trigger a definable keyboard shortcut from a different keyboard shortcut. This way I can have alternative shortcuts doing the same thing.
For example: In Lion, (if activated), Ctrl 1 takes you to Desktop 1. However, Ctrl 1 (number pad) and Ctrl 1 (number keys) are seen as different shortcuts and so I cannot access that shortcut from both places. Also, my old switching software used Ctrl Shift 1 – so I sometimes find my finger doing that… It would be good to resolve all three to do the same thing so it doesn’t matter where my hand is on the keyboard, or what my finger memory does.
Either that, or allow us to create predefined Actions (something I don’t think is currently possible.
This should hopefully be relatively simple to implement, and I’d be eternally grateful.
Many thanks again,
Luis.

hey great app! I love it.
your missing one action though. drag.
in the mac trackpad there is a three finger touch which allows you to move a window all around
AND it acts as a click and drag. with three fingers i can move files around select multiple lines of text… all without having to click and drag!!
sometimes its annoying to keep clicking and contorting your other finger to drag….

LOVE your produdcts, what is the keyboard clean product?

Since installing this tool about a month ago, and even now after updating to 0.75, I’ve had the same problem pretty frequently: I assign three-finger click to middle click, but when I three-finger click on a link in Firefox, it registers as both a middle click and a single click. So the link opens in both a new tab AND the current tab.
I think this problem is caused because I have three-finger drag turned on as well. With that turned on, when I do a three-finger touch on a link and drag *slightly* then release (with no click), it registers this as a single click. I think that same effect is happening when I three-finger click on something, so both things are registered.
I guess this isn’t exactly a problem with BetterTouchTool, and I don’t know if there’s anything you can do about it, but I figured I’d point it out.

Hi Andreas, in the latest build the gesture dropdown in preferences still has a problem – when you click it, it does not stay open. you have to click and hold to select a gesture.
December 9th, 2011 at 5:27 pm
is there a way to take a screenshot with a gesture?
December 9th, 2011 at 5:58 pm
@Kim, yes checkout the keyboard shortcuts for taking screenshots in your system preferences => keyboard (see http://d.pr/iq4X )
You can combine those with gestures
December 9th, 2011 at 7:04 pm
Is there a way using only a gesture, no keyboard
December 9th, 2011 at 7:22 pm
yes, just use those shortcuts as custom keyboard shortcuts for a gesture in BTT
December 9th, 2011 at 7:56 pm
From what I understand I will have to get “Cmd Shift 3″ in here.
http://bayimg.com/maLBPaADf
But when I try, nothing happens (besides taking a screenshot)
I can’t get it into the form..
What am I doing wrong?
December 9th, 2011 at 8:02 pm
@Kim, mhhh this should work… have you enabled “access for assistive devices” in your system preferences => universal access (second checkbox from the bottom)
If this doesn’t help you can disable the screenshot shortcut in your system preferences, then enter it in the form and then activate it again.
December 9th, 2011 at 8:05 pm
That did the trick. Thank you for the help

This app is great. One request I’d make is the ability to do a four finger pinch in/out. In Lion this feature reveals the desktop or shows Launchpad, but I’d like to be able to customize it. Thanks for the great app

Hi
I added a global tiptap gesture on the trackpad to Hide All Windows, but it does not work.
In fact, any gestures I am trying to add do not seem to work. Is there something I need to do to make them active?
Thanks

Hi Andreas,
Thanks

Hi Andreas,
Thanks for the tool, it’s great!
Could you please change the way BTT handles changing keyboard layout? For example, suppose I have set up my mac to use either the qwerty layout or the colemak layout (see http://colemak.com ). Suppose I have qwerty enabled and I configure a gesture to run the ?-T keyboard shortcut (eg new tab in chrome). If I now change my keyboard layout to colemak, this gesture will now run ?-G instead, since the T key in qwerty becomes the G key in colemak. This is annoying behaviour, since the gesture no longer opens a new tab.
My request is that keyboard shortcuts be configured by letter rather than by physical key, so that the same gesture opens a new tab in any layout.
Thanks

1. Amazing app. I hate macs, love windows, love your program.
2. Please consider adding the following feature: if you repeat the shortcut to snap in a direction when there are multiple monitors, it should cycle through the snap positions.
For example: Monitor left and monitor right.
a. App is in monitor left, snapped left.
b. App snaps to maximized in left monitor.
c. (second time) App snaps to right half of left monitor
d. (third time) App snaps to left half of right monitor
e. (fourth time) App snaps to maximized in right monitor
f. (fifth time) App snaps to right side of right monitor.
Great work.

Hi!
Great program, though I have a very little thing. While I drag something (3 fingers) inside a software (a waveform, etc.) there is a slight delay when I release the object. It does not let it go, only after little wait. Am I missing some adjustment here?
Thanks

The short story: Can this software be used with MBP build 3,1 mid 2007 (no glass panel Touchpad)?
Separed Touchpad does work in Lion with full finger options. The build in one does not.
Can I make a sudo command to trigger all options in my MBP? Which commands are these? (I’ve seen them on internet but can’t find them anymore)
Thx.

Wondering, if there is Windows 7 version under development or if there is any future plans to do that?
Because 3/4th of my time, I spend my time on Windows 7. (at my work)
I would more than love to donate for this.
January 19th, 2012 at 12:40 pm
Please, also add recognition for Normal Mouse – Scroll Up/Down as ‘buttons’ (rapid-fire like perhaps).
January 19th, 2012 at 9:01 pm
Does BetterTouchTool work in Lion? I see references to Lion here, but it doesn’t seem to work for me: the app launches, the menu bar control appears, but picking “Preferences…” from the menu does nothing.
January 19th, 2012 at 9:02 pm
@Jack sounds like your BetterTouchTool file is somehow corrupted. Try redownloading it! (if this doesn’t work you may have to delete the folder ~/Library/Application Support/BetterTouchTool but then your settings will be gone. (the library folder is hidden in Lion)
January 19th, 2012 at 9:11 pm
Reinstallation made it work. Cool!
For future reference, here’s how I installed it the first time, which did not work:
1. download (0.75, it seems to say it is)
2. unzip
3. launch from Downloads window
4. nothing visible happens
5. drag to Applications
6. launch from there
7. get “do you want to snap windows?”, answer no
8. reach state originally described
9. quit, remove from Applications, unzip, move to Applications, launch: works

this sounds like EXACTLY what I need. Any chance of a build for us losers still on leopard?

Hi,
I’ve big troubles with Plex and apple remote since I download last alpha version.
I can’t manage to make the apple remote work again in plex. I even tried to add gesture to Plex app with BTT but it’s not good (Up is for up key in menu but for volume up while playing)
Is there a mean to fix that ? (I see the “launch plugin/app after BTT launches” option, but I don’t know how to use it… )

i have problem looking up words in Preview with any gestures….

Just upgraded to version 0.75 but 3, 4, and 5 finger taps are no longer recognized on my Magic Trackpad.
I’m running OS 10.6.8. Is there any way to get this working again?
February 1st, 2012 at 5:02 am
I downgraded back to version 0.7293 and the 3, 4, and 5 finger taps work again. I also tried version 0.732 but the taps did not work on that either, nor did 5 finger swipes.
February 2nd, 2012 at 11:11 am
Still there is a problem with TipTaps. A lot of times the TipTap (Left and Right) is followed by a not wanted “normal” click/tap. Annoying if you use the TipTap to open a link in a new window and in the parent window the link is triggered too… Would be nice if you could fix this.

Been using BetterTouchTool for a while and it’s been one of my most essential apps in my system. Kudos to the developer!
I really appreciate the addition of predefined actions like Double Click, Cmd+Shift+Click, and all those clicks with the modifiers.
But other combinations, like Triple Click, Cmd+Alt+Click, and so on, are missing. So far, I’ve tried using making AppleScripts and launching them through BTT, but AppleScript isn’t good with mouse clicks.
Is there a way to add these in myself? If not, could these be added in a future BTT update?

Hello Andreas,
Thank you for BTT. I installed it for one purpose only: to get my three finger swipe do application switching again. This seems to work, but only partly:
Three finger swipe activate application switching (the overlay with the big icons display on the screen) BUT as soon you make the slightest movement or lift a finger, the application switching icons bar disappears.
I manage to do app switching by starting with three finger swipe, and then switch immediately to 2 finger swipe to select the right icon. But this is error prone.
If you (or blog reader) now how to configure for easy app switching with swipes: please let me know.
TIA

Hi Andreas,
Is it possible to add two-finger-double-tap & four-finger-double-tap in BTT?
We know they are recognized by 10.7.
I am using four finger double tap to “return to last used desktop”, as turned on via ” $ defaults write com.apple.dock double-tap-jump-back -bool TRUE “, however it get conflict to other moves I assigned to four finger “single” tap in BTT. So it would be wonderful if we can get control to that gesture, or assign “back to last used desktop” to some other gesture.
And thank you for your wonderful BTT. Just purchase BST via App Store yesterday it is awesome too.

Hi,
Can anyone help me set up BTT to stop two finger scrolling in Illustrator CS5.1
IT IS DRIVING ME BONKERS. I like to rest two fingers on my mouse when working, and unintentionally move them about, this causes my artboard to zip all over the place..arrgghh!
I have done the following in BTT:
Add illustrator to the the app list.
Added the two finger swip up,down left right gestures
Next to each one of those I have said predefined action is no action.
Is this right?
Any help would be much appreciated!!
thanks

Hey Andreas, what a lovely piece of software you have written here. Thank you very much.
I am running 10.6.8 and Logic Pro 9.1.6
Logic has the option to zoom vertically or zoom horizontally by pressing alt whilst scrolling the mouse. Would be nice to assign this to a gesture.
This could be achieved by adding “alt scroll” to predefined action (and “ctrl scroll” “shift scroll” and “cmd scroll” would be handy too.)
In fact with these additional commands this program would be totally awesomely powerful to me.
Thanks for everything.

Hallo Andreas,
Vorab besten Dank
Best wishes

BTT is nice, but one annoying thing is that inverse scrolling in Snow Leopard to mimic Lion doesn’t work much of the time. It’s possible that apps that rely on a Carbon API aren’t responding properly.

Andreas:
This is the best tool of its kind I have tried, my only suggestion is to add the thumb gesture, the thumb is a very useful gesture since most of the time is how we hold the mouse, one click with the thumb could be program to bring the application switcher or mission control.
thank you

BTT is the best thing to happen to a mac. I honestly don’t even see the point in owning a mac without it. I only want one thing: a four finger double tap. Please please add a four finger double tap.

I cannot click and drag a window or any items. I can only click. Is this normal?
I am using ipad BTT remote .
Thanks.

BTT Remote
Is there any options for 2 finger swipers or pinches? I see only 3 finger swipes.
Thanks!
