So I just uploaded 0.73 to normal auto update (for Lion users, alpha update for Snow Leopard users). I hope I didn’t introduce really nasty bugs, if I did please report them as soon as possible :-) .

Here a short summary what has changed since the last normal update:

  • added two new gestures for the Magic Mouse: “two finger double-tap” and “three finger double-tap” (disable doubletap gestures in your System Preferences if you want to use the ones in BTT)
  • fixed various issues with the remote control
  • added new predefined action “paste custom text”
  • you can now copy all gestures from one app to an other by right-clicking on the app.
  • various fixes for different predefined actions (launchpad, dashboard, middleclick…)
  • rewrote the swipe recognition algorithms for the magic mouse completely (they should produce less false positives now)
  • some window snapping fixes
  • various other fixes & improvements.
  • if you encounter any issues please let me know!

Thanks for the release. I’m still getting the bug where the first Three Finger Click event on the Magic Mouse is ignored after a swipe and a 2-3+ sec delay. I’m using 0.7174 now, which works fine.

  2. 2. John Says:

I’m using Lion, and as soon as I updated BetterTouch the double-finger-swipe that I normally use to switch between screens stopped functioning. I removed the app and it immediately returned to full functionality.

  3. 3. Peter Says:

I really love this tool, but i have a question: is “single finger double-tap” (not click) with the Magic Mouse also possible?

  4. 4. Tom Dibble Says:

I find that if BTT is enabled, the three-finger window moving gesture on Snow Leopard no longer works. I can click-drag windows, but the three-finger drag is something I use quite often. I can disable BTT and all works well again. I checked and have nothing mapped to three-finger anything in my prefs (note: it would be nice if we could disable specific gestures without deleting them, then I could do quite a bit more trouble-shooting here).

Using Lion but the update’s not showing up for me, even if I hit “Check for updates” button. Using 0.721

Hi there, really love this tool. Thanks for making it available.

I have a problem with my trackpad gestures. I can’t get the maximize window, or resize window actions to work with any gesture at all. I love these actions and they really help to speed up my day.

    Any hints?

    Mac OS X v. 10.6.8

Middle click only seems to work every other time since the update?

  8. 8. james Says:

Three finger swipes left and right are very finicky since this latest update. Last beta before this release works fine. Swipe works every 2nd or 3rd time I do the action(swipe.) Macbook pro 10.7.2. Would console logs help? I doubt it since there is no crash, just intermittent success.

  9. 9. Andreas Hegenberg Says:

@james magic mouse or trackpad? If mouse, try increasing the sensitivity a little: http://d.pr/sdCk

  10. 10. Brad Says:

I’m having some weird issue with the names of apps in the menu bar blacking out when I switch focus to them. Is there somewhere to get the previous version of BTT (0.721?) until this is fixed?

  11. 11. Andreas Hegenberg Says:

@Brad mhh I don’t think that’s caused by BTT. Have you tried restarting your system?

  12. 12. Brad Says:

    Hey Andreas, thanks for writing.

Yeah, I’ve restarted numerous times, and I’ve continued to only have the problem while BTT .73 is running. Windows seem to have been drawing a bit slower in some cases when switching to new apps as well.

Is there a way to roll back to the previous stable version to see if the problem persists?

Thanks for your work on BTT, it’s a great app.

  13. 13. Andreas Hegenberg Says:

@Brad yes, you can downgrade easily, just download 0.721 here: http://bettertouchtool.net/btt0.721.zip

  14. 14. Maurice Lam Says:

Can you give the option to set single tap and double tap for tap areas (on trackpads) separately?

Like settings double tap top left corner as closing window and single tap bottom right corner as right click.

  15. 15. Felipe Veiga Says:

Any idea when you will be able to release a lion version?

  16. 16. Andreas Hegenberg Says:

@Felipe about two months ago ;-) 0.73 should work fine on Lion. I only test on Lion these days.

  17. 17. Sean Says:

Hey, I found a bug that causes Microsoft Office and PDF reader to crash whenever I preform certain gestures. Anybody know anything about this?

  18. 18. Andreas Hegenberg Says:

    hey sean,
do you have an old version of multi clutch installed? it should be located in /Library/Inputmanager or s.th. like this. If so, delete it, it’s not compatible with lion

  19. 19. Julius Says:

    Hello,
    thanks for your great work.

I found an issue: the END (end of the page) seems that doesn’t work.
I tested it on my macbook pro 2010 with Lion.

  20. 20. match Says:

    Hi Andreas,

When I use “corner snap” with “Single Finger Touch Top” on the magicmouse :

    - With BTT : it works but it triggers also the corner action defined by the system (mission control, dashboard…)

    - With BST : doesn’t work (doesn’t trigger snap)

There is no problem when move window with regular click.
Is it possible to fix this ?

Thanks for the great work so far. I love it !

  21. 21. Andreas Hegenberg Says:

@match unfortunately no, I think in this case the system behavior can’t be blocked ;-(
Mhh but it should still snap with BST, are you running the current version of BST?

  22. 22. Geraldo Says:

    Maybe I found a bug.
The “Three-finger swipe Left and Right” to switch to another space/desktop doesn’t work very well. In the previous version it works just fine and now the mouse doesn’t get or react immediately to the gesture in the same way.

    I’m on Lion 10.7.2

  23. 23. Chris Walker Says:

    Hey Andreas,

I have a pretty specific bug. I use Google Chrome and a Magic Mouse, and I have a single finger swipe to the left mapped to Chrome’s ?[ (back a page) and a single finger swipe to the right mapped to ?] (forward a page).

However, 90% of the time, when I do a swipe to the left, it registers as two swipes and takes me back two pages in Chrome. I’ve set the gesture sensitivity to it’s lowest but it still does it.

    I have a 2009 C2D Macbook Pro running Lion 10.7.2 and Chrome’s latest build.

    Thanks,

    Chris

  24. 24. Eric Says:

I have the same issues as #23 above me. On Firefox, 90% of the time I swipe left, I go back two pages, rather than one. I’ve also set the gesture sensitivity way down, but it still does it. It didn’t seem to happen until I connected another magic mouse to my computer then switched back.

  25. 25. LJ Says:

Great app, but I wish “Single Finger double-tap” existed. I use it on the ipad all the time.

  26. 26. AD Says:

I also wish the “Single Finger double-tap” still existed. Now I am forced to hold down the trackpad with my thumb while maneuvering the selected item with a separate finger. It’s do-able, but awkward.

  27. 27. Andreas Hegenberg Says:

@AD you mean dragging by doubletapping? This still exists, Apple just hid it. You have to go to System Preferences => Universal Access => Mouse & Trackpad => Trackpad Options and activate “Dragging” (see http://d.pr/i/QBE3 )
