The latest alpha of BetterTouchTool (download) works quite fine with my new MagicTrackpad.
The MagicTrackpad is able to recognize up to 11 Fingers, just like the normal Trackpad
You just have to check the “MagicTrackpad Option”

//edit: bzw 0.592 fixes a problem with three finger tiptaps download above

Can i use the MM & MT at the same time???
July 28th, 2010 at 11:11 am
currently not, but with one of the next versions!
July 28th, 2010 at 11:26 am
Cool:) I’m using both and surprisingly it’s quite productive…Thanks again for all the super fast updates!!!

Dude… your fast!

Do you know if the 3 finger scrolling will conflict with your 3 finger swipe gestures?? I’m afraid if i do a 3 finger swipe up, it will be taken as a 3 finger scroll.
July 28th, 2010 at 12:39 pm
I meant the 3 finger drag for the above post! Thanks.
July 28th, 2010 at 12:44 pm
@m3kw yep sorry at least currently 3 finger navigation has to be activated if you want the swipes
July 28th, 2010 at 1:06 pm
If you add an option to deactivate the new 3 finger drag, then you may be able to solve the conflict. I really use the 3finger swipe up/down/left/right a lot!! If it conflicts, it will ruin it!! : (
July 28th, 2010 at 1:08 pm
m3kw uhm just deactivate the dragging in your trackpad preferences? Or did I misunderstand you?
July 28th, 2010 at 2:31 pm
Thanks so much for this, Andreas. I really appreciate your excellent work and your generosity in sharing it with all of us.
Do you think it will eventually be possible to make BetterTouchTool compatible with the three finger dragging?
July 28th, 2010 at 2:36 pm
@Jon I think the three finger click feature will be gone forever, the rest will be compatible
July 28th, 2010 at 2:37 pm
(Oops, I pressed the submit button before I meant to.)
On my MacBook Pro (Mid 2010), running BTT 0.592 causes Apple’s three finger dragging to do nothing, even though I have no three finger gestures assigned in BTT. I am hoping that eventually I will be able to use Apple’s three finger dragging as well as my BTT gestures.
Again, thanks so much, Andreas. You are a hero!
July 28th, 2010 at 2:39 pm
@Jon try deleting the three finger click gesture if you use that one
July 28th, 2010 at 2:41 pm
Oh, and I am using the MacBook Pro’s trackpad, not a Magic Trackpad. Also, Apple’s three finger Swipe to Navigate does work while BTT is running. BTT only seems to disable Apple’s three finger dragging.
(Sorry for the multiple comments to give you just one message.)
July 28th, 2010 at 2:54 pm
Hi again, Andreas. I don’t have a three finger click gesture enabled at all. In fact, I just tried deleting all my gestures and restarted BTT, but even with no gestures configured, BTT still causes Apple’s three finger dragging to do nothing on my trackpad.
July 28th, 2010 at 3:03 pm
Ah I see, thats because of a thing I needed to add in order to make the other gestures work again. I’ll think about if it’s possible to allow the dragging again but not sure if it will be possible

I’m using tiptap left and tiptap right to perform a middle click. I use this mainly to open up website links in new tabs. Since Apples inertia update last night and even after your alpha 0.592 release it performs slightly differently. It actions the middle click.. but also a single click. So now when I tiptap it opens up a new tab AND takes my current tab to the link I clicked upon. I end up with 2 tabs of the same content.
Also BetterTouchTool doesnt seem to come back up after a hybernation (or whatever Apple call it when the battery gets so low it saves the memory to disk to preserve where you left off). This has been happening since I installed it. Not sure if its already been fixed as i haven’t hibernated for a few weeks. Turning on the “Restarting BBT after wake from sleep” option doesn’t fix this from hibernation
On an additional note, i’d really like tiptap down and up as options… If I accidentally tiptap up or down, the bettertouchtool doesn’t recognise it. I normally tiptap left, but with my hand on an angle (as with most people I usually rest my hand to the side of the trackpad and not straight up) it ends up appearing to bettertouchtool like I’m tiptaping down. A Tiptap anywhere would be fine for this, as i use all tiptap functions for the same middle click.
I sound like a moaner. But seriously I love this software, its like something Apple missed out. I just wanted to make your aware of these things, so it can be the best it can be.

My two-finger tip taps for changing tabs in safari are also recognized as middle clicks when i do them over a hyperlink, so they load the link in a new tab *AND* change the tab. If I do the tip tap over the background, they work as they should.
July 28th, 2010 at 3:59 pm
@megatoerist did you update to 0.592 alpha?
July 28th, 2010 at 4:01 pm
Forgot to mention: three finger tap is not assigned to anything…
July 28th, 2010 at 4:02 pm
@Andreas: yes, this is with 0.592.
I also noticed some gestures are displayed as used in the pull-down menu, but I haven’t assigned them anywhere (I used to, but I have deleted them some time ago).
July 28th, 2010 at 4:06 pm
do you have the three finger click set as middleclick? if yes delete it. You can send me an export of your gestures then I’ll check whats wrong (bettertouchtool@boastr.net)
July 28th, 2010 at 4:21 pm
Yes, I had the three-finger click. I sent you an export of my gestures.
July 28th, 2010 at 6:14 pm
One question I’ve had for a while: what is an “11 finger gesture,” and how would you use it? No one has 11 fingers, and a regular trackpad can barely fit 10.
July 28th, 2010 at 6:40 pm
I can’t get anything to work on the Magic Touchpad, even with the MM turned off. Three finger swipe up or down isn’t recognized in live view either. This is with the latest beta and “Magic Touchpad” turned on.
I also can’t select the second option in type of computer, to say its a Mac without a touchpad.
July 28th, 2010 at 8:06 pm
Yeah 3 finger and 4 finger click does not work.
Will you be able to get it to work Andreas?
July 28th, 2010 at 10:03 pm
@b I currently don’t think three and 4 finger click will be available for use with the new framework. Apple changed how clicks are recognized which makes it impossible to recognize those. But I haven’t digged too deep into that yet. Maybe I’ll find a solution
July 29th, 2010 at 12:50 am
What about three finger swipe?
July 29th, 2010 at 12:53 am
@Ethan this works, but in your system preferences you have do disable the three finger dragging and activate the three finger navigation (system prefernces => trackpad)
July 29th, 2010 at 1:04 am
I did that, will try again. The live view doesn’t even reflect three finger swipe up or down.
July 29th, 2010 at 1:06 am
Ahhh, works. Why is click sensitivity altered though? single finger?
July 29th, 2010 at 1:06 am
what do you mean by click sensitivity?
July 29th, 2010 at 1:09 am
going to sleep now. Will answer tomorrow.
July 29th, 2010 at 1:10 am
I mean sometimes with BTT running it takes more than one click for a single click to be recognized on
July 29th, 2010 at 1:11 am
@Ethan mhh that most likely means that some other program is conflicting with BTT. Please check your system state on the bottom of this screen: http://drp.ly/1rGS5s )
July 29th, 2010 at 2:01 am
Quitting launch bar helped a bit, but still seeing single clicks not recognized in places.
