  • There was a VERY strange problem with the 0.510 alpha. It seems like Finder and Dock crashed while scanning the files in the zip file. This is definitely a Snow Leopard issue (Finder just can’t crash while scanning files) so I’ll report it to apple.
I cleaned the file, compiled again and it seems to work now, I don’t know what caused Finder to crash there… the finder crashreport suggests that it is connected to some sort of picture/icon in the zip..

So download 0.513 and delete the old 0.510. (If it crashes your Finder and you can’t delete it: try bringing your Finder in ListView mode – in this mode it didn’t crash for me). If this doesn’t work open terminal, navigate to the downloadfolder and then enter

rm -rf BetterTouchTool.app/
and maybe rm btt0.510.zip
//edit: 0.513 should fix with original apple zoom and rotate passing through even if a custom action was set for them

For some reason, sometimes BTT decides it’s up-to-date even when it’s clearly a good number of alpha versions behind… I did have it ignoring way back when it briefly broke middle-clicking in VMware Fusion, but I actually went to the extent of editing the Preferences plist file to get rid of that particular ignore, just in case ;)

    Any ideas?

  2. 2. Andreas Hegenberg Says:

@Peter do you have the alpha updating stuff enabled in the preferences?

  3. 3. Falk Kuebler Says:

The same was and is true for me since some while. Erratic, can’t trace it back. And yes, the checkmark is enabled. MBP unibody 10.6.2 MM.

  4. 4. blakken Says:

BTT is crashing from time to time after playing with moving the windows on dual monitor.

  5. 5. Andreas Hegenberg Says:

@blakken could you check if console.app has logged s.th.?

    hi Andreas i have a problem… i can’t add the gesture: ctrl + alt + cmd + eject
for shut down immediatly.. can you resolve it or add a predefined action for do this???

  7. 7. Ed Says:

I thought of some gestures that might be nice.

What if I click down two fingers (or three or four), and while the fingers are clicked down, swipe them some direction? Like a “four-finger-click swipe down” or something.

    Thanks for working so hard!

  8. 8. Jpma Says:

no idea why, on my itune pinch in out is my volume control in BTT,
now it’s triggering every time I do a 4 finger swipe expose(apple default)

Great it just take me half hour to figure it out what is wrong with my Dock when i finally found its BTT causing troubles and read that …. i know its alpha but come on you should check it before releasing …

  10. 10. Andreas Hegenberg Says:

@Rand yeah it was running fine here. I already filed a bugreport at apple.

I have a bit of an idea: I’d like to see the implementation of more than one character custom commands such as four finger click to /use striped frostsaber.

Again, fantastic piece of software, I could not imagine my magic mouse without it. Best of luck with the coding. Burleigh.

Hi Andreas I don’t know if anybody mentioned this but I use minimize with three finger tap middle and close windows with three finger tab left. I was wondering if I could do that with the window under the cursor instead of the active one.
    Is that possible?

    Thanks.

  13. 13. bobby Says:

I have the same problem like blakken. When I use window moving btt crashes. But I don’t use multi-monitors.

  14. 14. bobby Says:

Ok now I know why it crashes. BTT crashes everytime I try to move the jdownloader window and jdownloader is a java app. hope this helps.

  15. 15. Andreas Hegenberg Says:

ah tanks bobby, I’ll fix this.

  16. 16. Andreas Hegenberg Says:

@Bobby I currently can’t reproduce that, dowloaded jDownloader and tried moving it around without crashs. Which version of jDownloader are you using?
Coud you check if console.app has logged s.th. about the crash?

//edit ahh now I could reproduce it. WIll be fixed soon

//edit: please try if this fixes the window moving issues for you: http://home.in.tum.de/~hegenber/btt0.513c.zip

  17. 17. bobby Says:

@andreas man that was fast. It works now. I can move it with no crashes. Thanks a lot. Great app, I love it.

  18. 18. Andreas Hegenberg Says:

@bobby oh I think there is still a bug with that, just crashed it again with jdownloader… will see what caused that

  19. 19. Peter Hollo Says:

@Andreas sorry for delay. Yes, I have alpha updates enabled. With 0.511 installed I just checked for updates and it brought up the window for 0.513, so… go figure, I guess.
This time, though, it didn’t restart BTT – I had to do so manually. No worries.

mhh is that all blakken? (I think the interesting part should be below that) Thanks for reporting!

  22. 22. blakken Says:

@andreas ok which adress you want me to send you the log?

  23. 23. Andreas Hegenberg Says:

bettertouchtool [at] boastr.net :) thank you!

  24. 24. bobby Says:

@andreas I know why it crashes. everytime I start moving jdownloader with the cursor on the bar at the top and then with the cursor anywhere in the window, it works. but as soon as I start with the cursor anywhere in the window it crashes. For example I move jdownloader(cursor is in the window) it crashes. or I move jdownloader cursor on the bar it works and then I can also move it with the cursor in the window, without crashes.

@bobby, interesting. Will look at it again :-) silly java apps

Hi, Having accidentally installed the latest version on a Desktop Mac (10.6.2) my dock is disappearing and every few minutes briefly reappears. If I search my Mac for “Better” for a second it returns a positive result that the app is in the app folder, but then the result vanishes, and the app is not in the apps folder. Other controls (eg Apple-Tab) no longer function. How can I delete or uninstall something I can’t find? Many thanks, Kit
