- adds very basic implementation of 5 finger click for the trackpad (hope I didn’t break things, as you know I don’t have much time currently because I have to learn…;-))
- bugfixes
//edit: 0.508 fixes conflict bezween 5 finger tap and 5 finger click
//edit: 0.509 some general bugfixes… (e.g. with the batterylevel warning which is btw. now customizeable… also maybe fixed problems where original apple gestures stopped working from time to time, but I’m not sure about this)

I just had a question about Start/Stop moving/resizing window.
How exactly does it work?
I set up 5-finger down to start/stop moving window (touchpad), but when I try it out nothing happens. I can move window by holding CTRL.
I wanted to be able to moving/resize a window without using the keyboard.

hi
I really like your app, that was the reason to buy a magic mouse and upgrade to snow leo
could you add an option to activate the fullsize maximize (like in the actions) for the green button?
and the momentum scroll for the touchpad (like the mouse do)?
thank you

This windows stuff moving and resizing is really cool but I noticed few bugs with dual monitor:
While moving the window on the side of the second monitor the window is flipping to the second while it should reduce 50% size on the first monitor.
Second which isn’t a bug is I regret that resizing and moving windows cannot be done while holding the CTRL or the ALT using the magic mouse ,touchpad is obviously working. Why not implementing this simple function instead of using gestures combinations?
Tanks again for your great work.

Hi
I believe starting from version 4.9x or 5, BBT introduced a bug where sometimes OS X’s original multitouch gestures excluding 2-finger swipes stop working, such as rotate and swipe to navigate. In this case only the gestures either defined in BBT or 2 finger scrolling are working.
Thank you for your great work.

BTW when this happens, if I close BBT the original gestures are working again. So I believe BBT caused this issue.
January 22nd, 2010 at 8:33 pm
Hmmm.. I don’t really know what is going on… It seems sometimes I close BBT and the issue persists.
January 22nd, 2010 at 8:51 pm
hey adam could you test if this happens with this version too: http://home.in.tum.de/~hegenber/btt0.509test1.zip ? I could never really reproduce that bug on my mac so it’s hard to find…
If this doesn’t help, could you try adding a customized pinch or rotate gesture to some app? (this will stop some internal processes for cpu optimization which may be causing the problem… I already tried to track the bug with an other user but we didn’t come to a conclusion because everything looked fine on BTTs side… also the apple forums are full of people who tell their swipes etc. stop sometimes since 10.6.2…. maybe it’s a snow leopard problem that occurs more often if you use btt…)
January 23rd, 2010 at 12:36 am
I restarted BBT with the updated version you just posted. The issue persists.
The strangest thing is this problem happens fairly randomly, sometimes gestures are working, sometime aren’t, sometimes they work for finder but not safari and sometimes the opposite happens, or they just don’t work for the entire system at all.
Currently I can set custom swipe gestures in BBT to make them work all the time. And obviously gestures like rotation in Preview will remain not working usually.
BTW when the system gestures aren’t working on the trackpad, the corresponding gestures on the magic mouse stop working as well.
Thank you for your great work and looking forward to your response.

I just checked. It’s an application-related problem. Relaunching the application solves it.
January 23rd, 2010 at 12:47 am
Oops… Forget what I just said in post #13. It didn’t fix it.

An interesting finding:
if I tick “Swipe to Navigate” in Trackpad preference pane, the live view in BBT 0.509 can recognise 3-finger swipe up/down gestures; but if I untick the checkbox, the live view won’t recognise the same gestures.
This is the checkbox I’m talking about – http://kttns.org/ezmdl
Hope this will help.
January 23rd, 2010 at 12:58 am
@Adam yeah thats ok, BTT fetches those 3 finger swipes and modifies them if necessary
thus they have to be activated.
Did you try adding a custom rotate / pinch gesture in BTT?
January 23rd, 2010 at 1:03 am
it would be interesting if it begins working again if you uncheck the checkbox you talked about and then check it again
January 23rd, 2010 at 1:25 am
Custom rotate/pinch definitely work by using keyboard shortcuts such as cmd+ or cmd-.
I tried by relaunching finder and checking/unchecking the checkbox in different combinations of orders… It never begins to work again.

@adam have you restarted your mac since this happened the first time?
January 23rd, 2010 at 1:43 am
@adam could you send me the output of a “ps -ef” on your terminal to bettertouchtool AT boastr.net? maybe there is a conflicting app or s.th.
January 23rd, 2010 at 1:51 am
I can confirm if I restart my Mac everything is back to normal until it happens again, usually in a short time like ten minutes.
I’m not sure how I can send it via boastr.net. I simply uploaded it to here – http://kttns.org/1zthk
Thank you for your help!

@adam mhh that looks ok. Maybe try disabling the vnc server but I don’t think that causes it…. but who knows.
Would be cool if you’d also test this version to see if it still happens…http://home.in.tum.de/~hegenber/btt0.510b.zip

there’s a problem with the latest version.
once I download it into my download folder.
unzip it, the finder just close by itself.
everytime I tried to open it, it just close again.
I have to use another mac to get into my download folder through network and remove the BTT app in order for everything to return to normal.
January 23rd, 2010 at 8:36 am
the sensitivity of 5 finger tap and rotate left/right have decrease.
playing the level setting doesn’t help much
January 23rd, 2010 at 9:34 am
@Jpma
have the same problem. But you can use your Terminal to access the folder.
Moved the act. app (5.10) using Terminal to Program Folder. Now I can reach my Download-Folder normally but the Finder restarts itself while indexing the Program-Folder.
I think there’s a problem with the Icon (can’t imagine why). When I opend the Folder where BTT is located, it stays open until Finder begins to read BTT.app. And while there’s no crash opending and reading via Terminal and BTT can be launched and works normally, I think the App Icon can lead to the crashes…
January 23rd, 2010 at 10:59 am
the 510 Version crashed my system too! It took me about 20 min and 3 restarts till I managed to delete 510.app from the download folder!
So, I now its alpha but please be sure your tool doesnt crash systems…
I wish you the best for your exams
January 23rd, 2010 at 12:03 pm
5.10 crashes.. killer app
January 23rd, 2010 at 1:05 pm
I really don’t know what this could be. It is definitely a problem with the system because BTT is not even loaded (Finder crashes while he scans the file?! WTF)
I think we found a snow leopard bug here… will reupload the file and sumbit it to the apple bugreporter
January 23rd, 2010 at 3:21 pm
I’m testing out 0.510b. Will post if gestures stop working.

OK swipe to navigate and zoom in/out stopped working in finder.
January 23rd, 2010 at 5:34 pm
@Adam, thanks for testing…. do you know if this happened with older versions too? I currently can’t think of any changes that could have caused that.
As far as I could investigate the event is passed to the system and so BTT doesn’t have control of it anymore… but something strange seems to happen then and the System doesn’t properly deliver it to the application.
The fact that the problem sometimes even persists when BTT is closed suggests, that it’s a bug in the systems eventhandling… unfortunately I’m using a lot of undocumented stuff to achieve what BTT does, so I don’t know if this will be fixable.
I’ll add a option to disable the event catching completely – as I think this is the only thing that could cause that – but then three finger swipes & rotate & zoom won’t be customizeable.

thank you very much, nice support
