- windows 7 style resizing and moving features should now work on multimonitor systems
- improved the touchpad window moving stuff (using modifier keys). Also it’s now possible to set FN as required key additional to ctrl and alt if they did conflict with some other program on your mac.
Mike pointed me to Zoom/2 which seems to be pretty great for window moving resizing etc. I think if you need more advanced options than BTT offers you should definitely take a look at this: http://coderage-software.com/zooom/download/download.html BTT will not become as good as this for window moving / resizing stuff.
//edit: 0.5061 little fix
//edit: 0.5062 some fixes for the window moving/resizing stuff and maybe solved the problem where the mouse speed resets to zero after a restart (but haven’t tested that yet)
//edit: 05063 fixes some problems with using modifier keys for gestures. (E.g. with window moving and resizing on the magic mous) Also if you use 3d programs you now don’t have to set extra gestures for each modifierkey you need for middleclicking. Just add middleclick and it should always work.

Love the moving and resizing actions! Your implemwntation of Win7-style window controls is great. Some bug reports + feature requests though:
- The move.resize need some tweaking. Both functions are more sluggish and lag behing the mouse movement in BTT (when compared to Zooom2, which does the same thing). The window resizing is scaled down compared to trackpad movement, making it feel really slow and unwieldy – if I drag the mouse from the very bottom right to the top left of my screen, the window only gets sized down by maybe 300px in each dimension.
- The functions do not work with TextMate windows, unless my mouse is hovering over the window titlebar when I start the move/resize (this happens whether the “focused window” or “window under cursor” options are checked in BTT). It may have to do with window transparency, which I use in TextMate.
- I still cannot get any of BTT’s window movement options (including the old “maximise window left/right/full” triggers) to work with TotalFinder at all. I thought you said earlier they were compatible now?
Is there a technical problem with having just the function key as the window movement trigger? Becase I would really like that.

@did you restart TotalFinder after updating it to the latest version?
I just checked Zoom/2 and it seems to be a very mature solution. I think if Zoom/2 is good for you you should stay with it / buy it because I won’t make BTT that great.

Also check http://www.irradiatedsoftware.com/ for alternatives for the Windows 7 actions (Cinch) or moving windows left right, next monitor etc (SizeUp and TwoUp). I am using SizeUp and have to say it works quite well, it does similar things as BTT, but I like to have keyboard shortcuts for these actions, instead of touchpad gestures.

Hello,
Still not holding preferences after restart… Cursor speed reset to zero. There seems to be a conflict with Apple mouse prefs. Snow Leopard 10.6.2.

@ Andreas:
That’s a shame, because I’m always looking to minimise the number of background processes and hacks I’m using
(although I would be mildly annoyed to stop using Zooom after I paid for it)
The reason I keep comparing to Zooom is precisely because I think it’s a very good implementation of this behaviour and one worth emulating. I do think the issues I posted are genuine bugs and usability issues, not additional bloat.
January 20th, 2010 at 7:25 pm
@Mike yep I think I can fix the issues you mentioned but I won’t add everything that Zooom is able to do!
January 20th, 2010 at 7:33 pm
Andreas, I know it would be too much to add everything from Zooom, but I also would like to be able to drop Zooom for BTT, in favor of less background processes. The one thing I think currently needs to be better is the “lag” that happens when you move a window using BTT. It is as Mike says in the first post, being a bit sluggish. Also resizing in a different direction would be nice, but not a must.
The other functions from Zooom do not interest me that much, although I do use the filter to disable the function for certain applications. I use this because for some applications you might want to use the Ctrl button to select multiple things, which is not possible when a single Ctrl button resizes the window when you move the mouse.

@ Andreas
That’s great – I do think BTT should focus on doing what it does well rather than stacking on tons of new features.

The mouse speed stays the same after a reboot, but the slider is at about 3 so when I slide it a little to the left or right my setting (13) changes to 3 all of a sudden.
January 20th, 2010 at 9:27 pm
Forgot to mention that with a previous version my mouse speed was indeed reset to 0.
January 20th, 2010 at 9:29 pm
thanks I’ll have to restart my macbook sometime soon too see what happens
Ah one question, did you slide the slider with the new version before restarting?

nabend andreas…
ciao
January 20th, 2010 at 11:08 pm
(also am besten three finger touch top => start / stop resizing und two finger touch top => start / stop moving)
January 20th, 2010 at 11:18 pm
January 20th, 2010 at 11:22 pm
@franz, das ist sehr komisch.
January 20th, 2010 at 11:30 pm
January 20th, 2010 at 11:32 pm
hehe
January 20th, 2010 at 11:38 pm

Hello Andreas,
no comments on the current alpha, I just wanted to tell you how amazing your work is, how responsive you are towards the users of your magical little app, and I also wanted to thank you.

Andreas, whatever you changed on .5063 (didn’t get to try .0562) seems to have taken care of the speed reset to zero problem here !
Thanks great work.

Sorry if anybody reported this before or if you are already aware of it, but Safari wont zoom or move if gesture starts over at QuickTime video!
Otherwise, works GREAT!
January 21st, 2010 at 7:05 am
Hey Andreas,
Would it be possible to move/resize windows without pressing a key while using the trackpad? For example, I’d like to be able to always have three fingers move windows.

What about right click when other fingers are touched?
It’s not working now
January 21st, 2010 at 9:41 am
hey, defining click ranges saved the day! thanks a lot.
January 21st, 2010 at 4:18 pm
some problem i recognized, to be exact , on this page,
http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japão
i have linked the middle click to be the doubleclick.
the first time i middle click on some text it selects the word, but if i try some more, middleclicks wont select another word. strange it is, as i think it might be a bug.

I love your BTT work, but why did you drop the “deactivate mouse acceleration” general mouse preference feature from version 0.4x to 0.5x, or did it move to another window?
Please bring it back
Thank you soooo much.
Greetings from Hamburg

the 3 finger swipe + cmd on safari for opening a previous page in a new tab is not fix.
January 21st, 2010 at 8:41 pm
Hey Andy!
Well the cursor speed bug seems to have disappeared. Nice!
Another annoying bug is that the Safari preference I set (two finger tap=new tab) disappears after some time surfing!
