@Andreas: i suppressed BTT from boot session, restarted my computer and tried to run the computer without using BTT but even if it’s not working after few minutes, my computer doesn’t answer anymore when: i want to shut down, restart, put it in sleep mode, change user session, close user session, use shortkeys on the keyboard like the sound or dashboard etc
How could i fix it and comme back on a usable computer ???
Help me please, is there a .plist file to suppress that causes conflict with other apps or with the system or do i have to delete BTT application to fix my computer … ?
Can you send your answer by email please

The menu in the menubar applet doesn’t function as a menu should. That is. It should select the options as the pointer passes over them. Not only select them when upon a mouse click. Look at the behaviour of BTT’s menubar’s menu and compare it to all others you have in the menu and you’ll what I’m talking about.

@Robert do you only have original Apple MenuItems in your menubar? BTT does it how apple wants it for non apple menubar items. (there is no public API for doing it like the apple menuitems)
@julien, I don’t really understand. When exactly does the freeze occur?
December 16th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
After perhaps 5 to 20 minutes using the computer, it’s not a freeze, some functions don’t answer anymore when i click on it or i press it on the keyboard: for example, i click on restart and nothing happens, there is not the little window opening and asking me if i want to restart, there is just nothing happening as if i didn’t clicked on it ! Every apps work fine but only some menus like i told you don’t answer anymore …

The two finger tip tap is conflicting with the single finger tip tap and, also, it doesn’t work as you show or say. In fact, to make it trigger, I have to put ONE finger down and to tip tap with TWO fingers on each side. That’s weird
But, also, the five finger swipes for trackpad aren’t working. Are they programmed yet?
December 16th, 2009 at 2:54 pm
@julien and this doesn’t happen if BTT is not running? Have you any programs installed that do something with your mouse or keyboard?
Do you have more than one user logged in at the same time?
December 16th, 2009 at 2:55 pm
@David did you disable the original apple 4 finger swipes in your system preferences?
I can’t reproduce your tip tap / two finger tip tap issues currently, does anybody else have this problems with two finger tip tap?

Like i already answered you before, since i tried BTT (about 1 week), my problem happens xhen BTT runs and even if BTT doesn’t run on the computer. That’s the reason why i asked you if there something to do, if ther is a .plist file to suppress or perhaps the entire BTT app to suppress that could cause the bug ?
December 16th, 2009 at 3:02 pm
And sorry: No i haven’t any other application doing something with my mouse or keyboard. I only tried BTT and since i have problems with my computer.
December 16th, 2009 at 3:02 pm
@julien have you checked via Activity Monitor if BTT isn’t running? Maybe you did hide the menubar icon? If BTT is not running there is no possibility that BTT is causing the probelms. Also check your login items (System Preferences => Accounts => Login Items)
BTT doesn’t interact in any way with your computer if it is not running
The BTT settings are saved in /Library/Preferences/com.hegenberg.BetterTouchTool.plist and in /Library/ApplicationSupport/BetterTouchTool but they don’t do anything if BTT isn’t running.

Andreas, after I restarted the Mac, I noticed the battery level in General showed 0%. I went into System Preferences and opened the Mouse pane, which showed it as 66%. After this it showed 66% in General.
December 16th, 2009 at 3:06 pm
@Essef the batterylevel is only updated every 30 seconds or so
Maybe the magic mouse wasn’t connected completely when BTT first tried to fetch the batterylevel
December 16th, 2009 at 3:10 pm
Ok, i already suppress it in Account-Login items. And i suppress it too from the menu icon.
Could it be possible that the first time i used it, it would have modify somthing or interact with something in the computer and disturebd it ?
Because the relation is really evident, i haven’t installed other apps since 2 weeks, just BTT and since this time, my computer is bugged !!!
I’m sorry but i just try to find a cure … ;o) I don’t know how BTT works so i don’t know what could it cause the problem.
December 16th, 2009 at 3:12 pm
the only thing that BTT changes on your system is the mouse speed (and only if you change that in the settings) but that really shouldn’t matter. But feel free setting the mouse speed via your System Preferences again. Thats really everything BTT does to system settings.
Did you check to see if there is a process called BetterTouchTool in you activity monitor?

I was running out of things to assign gestures to, so I figured launching certain websites with a gesture would be handy. Site Launcher firefox addon + BTT = yay! thanks again for the great work Andreas!
December 16th, 2009 at 3:25 pm
No but i will try it at night. I’m at the office and not working on my iMac, it is at home.

First, I often experience the freezing problem. Mouse pointer moves but I cannot click the button of mouse nor type any key in keyboard. Putting my MBP into sleep and awake it usually fix the freeze problem, but it’s really inconvenient.
Second, BTT has some problem with input systems. In Korean input method, I can use gestures but cannot see the shortcuts in BTT gesture configuration window.
December 16th, 2009 at 3:43 pm
@nov the freezing problem only occurs if you have other programs running that do something to your mouse or keyboard (and it is a snow leopard bug). I’m looking for a workaround but didn’t find a suitable one yet.
I’ll look into the input stuff

By the way, i noticed that the two tap finger didn’t work on my computer (magic mouse) but the three finger tap works fine. Is there the zoom in and out (pinch) function active on the mouse like on the touchpad ?
December 16th, 2009 at 3:46 pm
@julien you can use zoom in and out by adding the gestures pinch in and pinch out and assigning the shortcuts cmd+ and cmd-
For the two finger tap issue i suggest resetting your settings using the resetbutton, maybe s.th. is wrong there.
ah and julien, you can try hitting ctrl+alt+cmd+o if this opens the preferences window on your mac btt is still running!

Wooo awesome thanks Andreas
can’t wait to go home and try this one out.
December 16th, 2009 at 6:21 pm
@Amrit, yup don’t expect too much, for me it works well but it’s just a first version, would be cool if you’d report bugs.
December 16th, 2009 at 6:28 pm
@Andreas
No problem I will let you know how it goes.

i never use tip tap 1 finger cause it never works for me.
but tip tap 2 finger is very accurate.
